My name is Korie, age 21. A native of Imo, born in Lagos, Nigeria and a graduate of Economics. But much more than this, I am a singer and a songwriter! My journey into music started at the age of 5, when music started becoming second nature to me. I grew up listening to gospel songs due to my christian background. I started writing songs at age 6. Growing up, I have always wanted to be on TV, and wished I could play a musical instrument. So I started picking interest in guitar as I grew. Years later, I decided to learn how to play the guitar so I could sing with it. Music to me was just so intense and emotional, I needed to pull the strings!
Out of determination, with no guitar nor money to buy one, I started drawing huge guitars on papers, and practiced different notes and chords watching YouTube. It was ridiculous but my love for music made it surmountable. I regularly got training videos from YouTube to learn to play the guitar. After months of savings, I bought my first guitar when I was 19..
Learning got more practical as I continued learning at midnight for 14 months nonstop....I did vocal trainings too on YouTube. Now, I can mesmerise you with the strings...
I found a niche for myself as I evolved from a singer to an artist.I have always felt like I didn't fit in anywhere, but it was meant to be, I wasn't ever suppose to fit in, but stand out, as a Nigerian afrosoul fusion artist.
You can't imagine the power of passion, what drive can do, and what you can achieve with determination and the power of a YouTube video, daily, weekly, however . It is so incredible. Today, I'm proud to be a self-taught singer and songwriter. I feel I can achieve the impossible! And more importantly, I have also learnt that with YouTube at your finger tips, and the right drive, we can all achieve our dreams- nothing absolutely is impossible!
