The Story Behind The EP

Korie, an upcoming Nigeria Afro Soul Fusion artist, just drop her debut EP titled “This is Korie” with a compilation of five songs namely; Fear, Foe, My Love Will Find You, Change Me and  Ife ( love ). The sensational songstress talked about the inspiration behind each of those songs and the message she has in them for her audience.

The first track titled “Fear” is an inspirational song that encourages one to keep moving forward despite all odds and fears, fighting your challenges in the appropriate way, with the best version of yourself in view. This is the kind of music you would like to listen or sing to yourself when you want to encourage yourself, a friend or you want to take that big risk. 

The second track titled “Foe” is about an enemy, who acts like a friend in disguise, someone you have good intentions for… But goes behind you, spreading hatred, dislikes or discord in people who have good intentions for/about you.

The third track titled “My Love Will Find You” is basically about what you are passionate about. It could be music, drama, dance, art, technology or whatever it is for you. Personally, it is my love for music! Here, I talk about my pursuit for music as the love a Romeo (a man) has for a Juliet (a woman), with the promise that my love will find my Juliet wherever she is, or where she would lead me to, regardless. And that’s music for me…

The fourth track titled “Change Me”, talks about my resolution to change for the better; no matter how far I am from my ideal personality. I don’t want to be the same person people knew me to be. Like the saying, ‘The journey of a thousand miles starts with a step.’ Therefore, I use this song to invite friends (new or old), families and acquaintances, whosoever that wants a change, to join me in the journey to become a better version of ourselves. I want to roll with friends that are planning on being better. So let’s sing this song together.

The fifth track which is a bonus track is titled “Ife”. This song is about a person’s love for someone that is not accepting or recognizing the love….Though, as difficult it is to accept the truth to move on, remember that for every love stories, there is seldom one that would turn out differently and unexpectedly, and maybe this one could be it… Maybe a little more persistent would make him/her reciprocate back. You never can tell! Enjoy the song!

Kindness Okorie better known by the stage name, Korie is a Nigerian singer born on the. 13th of June, 1998. She is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, performing and recording artist. Korie was born in Lagos and she lives in Lagos, Nigeria ( Africa ). Music to her is Life, with music she can give to people more than she can ordinarily. With music, she can give butterflies to the soul, wings to the mind, flight to the imaginations and life to everything. This is Korie.

My message to people

The EP is a reflection of herself, her thoughts and her feelings toward Music. Music gives her the strength she needs to proceed. The EP will be available on all Music digital platforms.

Korie ( The Brand )

My name is Korie, age 21. A native of Imo, born in Lagos, Nigeria and a graduate of Economics. But much more than this, I am a singer and a  songwriter! My journey into music started at the age of 5, when music started becoming second nature to me. I grew up listening to gospel songs due to my christian background. I  started writing songs at age 6. Growing up, I have always wanted to be on TV, and wished I could play a musical instrument. So I started picking interest in guitar as I grew. Years later, I decided to learn how to play the guitar so I could sing with it. Music to me was just so intense and emotional, I needed to pull the strings!

Out of determination, with no guitar nor money to buy one, I started drawing  huge guitars on papers, and practiced different notes and chords watching YouTube. It was ridiculous but my love for music made it surmountable. I regularly got training videos from YouTube to learn to play the guitar. After months of savings, I bought my first guitar when I was 19.. 

Learning got more practical as I continued learning at midnight for 14 months nonstop....I did vocal trainings too on YouTube. Now, I can mesmerise you with the strings...

I found a niche for myself as I evolved from a singer to an artist.I have always felt like I didn't fit in anywhere, but it was meant to be, I wasn't ever suppose to fit in, but stand out, as a Nigerian afrosoul fusion artist.

You can't imagine the power of passion, what drive can do, and what you can achieve with determination and the power of  a YouTube video, daily, weekly, however . It is so incredible. Today, I'm proud to be a self-taught singer and songwriter. I feel I can achieve the impossible! And more importantly, I have also learnt that with YouTube at your finger tips, and the right drive, we can all achieve our dreams- nothing absolutely is impossible!

Call it a "him" or "her", my fantasy or reality; still, I would always be drawn to her love since my childhood. Her arms are wide open to always receive me.

 

Music gives me the strength I need to push forward through challenges. Music is the sweetest way I could express my appreciation of life experiences, the shouts and joy, the ecstasy and sobriety. Music, my friend that comforted me through the hurts from fair-weathered friends. You found me at the age of 5 before I understood what passion is. Now you’re my passion! No matter how good I have expressed my emotions through you, my love for you would always keep me to yet find another wonderful song to sing to my audience.  

 

Those were my thoughts when I title this EP as “This is Korie”. "This is Korie" gives to people more than I can ordinarily.  With music, I can give butterflies to the soul, wings to the mind, flight to the imaginations and life to everything. I am music and music is me . #KorieWithLove
